How does the use of Hydrogen as a fuel help the enviroment?
If Hydrogen is produced using ONLY Solar, Wind, Hydro and Geothermal using electrolysis ( splitting water with electricity) than Hydrogen will be truly a clean fuel.
The health and well-being of every living creature depends upon clean water, clean food and clean air. That statement may seem simplistic to you. It does to me. Yet, when we consider that there is no longer pure, clean, uncontaminated water or food available at any place on earth, (even in the mountains of Mexico where they are attempting to grow “organic” corn and are finding chemicals in what they thought was a clean environment) and no longer is there pure air surrounding our beautiful, blue planet, we then understand that unless we clean up our act very soon we will no longer have anything to make a statement about. We will simply not be here, as a race, as a class, as a phylum, as a genus, as an anything.
Lung disease throughout the world is increasing exponentially. Slash and burn continues to be the policy of some cultures. Members of our own government today are advocating cutting more forests (forests that manufacture the very life-giving oxygen that we are depleting as fast or faster than the forests can manufacture it). Members of our own government today are advocating drilling for more and more fossil fuels and wars are being fought, lives are being lost over fossil fuels and the list goes on.
Having made that “doomsday” statement, let me lighten up a little bit here. There is hope for the living things on this planet and it comes heralded by those who are busily working, (unheralded and behind the scenes) on new designs to convert old fossil-fuel-burning vehicles to cleaner-fuel-burning vehicles, specifically hydrogen-burning vehicles. Organizations, engineers, and lay people are actively engaged in the building of wind farms to convert wind power to electricity. Europe remains the leader in changing the old ways, with dependence entirely on coal and oil for heat and electricity, to the new ways of utilizing the wind and the sun and the very air we breathe to provide non-polluting heat and electricity.
Old governments that advocate reliance on fossil fuels and the death and destruction brought by that reliance may soon be on their way out. Further hope for the living things on this planet has arrived by way of a new member of government, the right honorable governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and he brings to that office his record of caring for the health of not only his own family but for all people. Governor Schwarzenegger is one who does not simply “talk” about environmental issues, he is one who actively does something about it.
